Pretty Little Liars description - Set in Pennsylvania, four teen girls become bonded together after their group leader, Alison DiLaurentis, mysteriously disappears. Strangely, after Alison's disappearance, these four girls start receiving disconcerting messages signed with an "A", threatening to expose the girls' darkest secrets. The identity and presence of this unseen character adds to the story line's suspense and excitement.

Each of the four main characters; Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, and Emily Fields, add their own unique personality to the group. Spencer plays the strong, independent perfectionist. Before Alison disappeared, Spencer was the only member of the clique brave enough to stand up to her and her arrogant ways. Hanna is the flirtatious queen bee who reconnects with Emily, Spencer, and Aria after Alison's disappearance. Aria is the alternative, punk rock, member of the group. Aria moves back to town after her family relocates from Iceland. Aria adds spice to the story by accidentally getting tangled up in a relationship with a teacher. Emily is a free spirit, and as we learn from season one, is a lesbian. Emily has a unique viewpoint because she was closest to Alison before her disappearance.

Although there have been many shows about teen girls and teen issues, Pretty Little Liars truly makes its audience care about the lives of these girls. While watching, you become sucked into their world in fictional Rosewood, Pennsylvania. And although each girls' flaws are apparent, you cannot help but root for these imperfect protagonists as they deal with death, love, sex, and lies.
