True Blood description - HBO's "True Blood" entertains viewers with sex, vampires and social commentary. Set in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the show follows the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress. Sookie is drawn to the supernatural world when she discovers that she cannot hear the thoughts of vampires or shapeshifters. Supernatural creatures are drawn to Sookie for her sex appeal and magical heritage.

The show's title refers to a synthetic form of blood that allows vampires to "come out of the coffin." True Blood dishes out commentary on civil rights by using vampires and other supernatural creatures as stand-ins for minorities. The townsfolk of Bon Temps struggle to accept the unnatural vampires, shapeshifters and werewolves that are suddenly out in the public eye. Religious fundamentalists denounce vampires, and some cults even try to kill the undead.

When Sookie falls in love with a vampire, she becomes a lightning rod for controversy in her small town. Her friends and family must struggle to overcome their revulsion to Sookie's suitor, but not everyone in the supernatural world wants to make peace with humans. Sookie and her friends are kidnapped, beaten and bitten by malevolent vampires, straining the chances that Sookie's world can ever accept her vampire lover.
